"I choose Lakehead because of the small class sizes, the beautiful surroundings and the chance to get to know your professors and your fellow students really well. Here at Lakehead, the professors always have time to help you either before or after class, through email or just drop by their office. At Lakehead getting involved is the really easy, all you have to do is to go to a center on campus and ask if you could help out or ask someone, which is how I got involved around campus. I first started volunteering for LUSU events Committee and now I am involved in a lot more. The chance to meet new people, to help students, the different skill set you learn and the networking opportunities are just a few reasons why I started to get involved.

One of the things that I am involved in is that I am the president of Lakehead University International Club (LUIC), this is important to me because it is something personal to me. I know what the incoming international students feel and I want to help them as much as possible and make their transition into the Canadian school life easier.
Lakehead is giving me the opportunity to learn new skill sets, to learn things about myself that I have never known before, and to push myself harder to achieve what I want."

"I am a Brazilian student participating in an exchange program through Science Without Borders, a scholarship provided by the Brazilian government that gives us the opportunity to study one year of our undergraduate program in a foreign university. And I came to Lakehead University. I had the opportunity to improve my knowledge with courses that I could not attend in Brazil.

The university can be classified as high level, with an awesome structure, classrooms and laboratories and, of course, well-prepared professors that give us all support to develop our skills of engineers, not only in class but after the classes if we need.

And Lakehead University is also a good choice for extracurricular activities. Lakehead has many on-campus sports and a bunch of awesome events for students that live in residences. Thunder Bay is a small city but a beautiful place that allows us to enjoy nature with kilometres of bike trails and national parks with gorgeous landscapes such as the famous Sleeping Giant.

Unfortunately it is just one year exchange program, but for sure that this year will be in my memories for the rest of my life."

"One thing I like about academics at Lakehead is that students can approach their professors very easily. In my upper years, our classes get smaller where you can ask questions to your professors and discuss the course materials more closely. Trust me, professors are very helpful if you think you don't know where you are going with your academic path.

I was involved in the research through my 4th year Gerontology seminar class. It was involved with Dawson Court long term care in Thunder Bay. Our class had an opportunity to evaluate the program "Dont let the sun go down" designed by the Dawson Court. It was specifically designed to decrease agitation at shift change for the residents with dementia. The research will soon be published.

Student life is fun. I was really interested in starting up a club for international students at Lakehead, so a friend and I founded the Lakehead University International Club have been active ever since. The club helps bring the Canadian students and international students together.
It's important to me because getting involved in activities and being active really helps you in settling down in a new place far from home.

Coming to Lakehead was a good decision. I discovered my passion for the Gerontology program which I had no clue about before. I always shared close relationships with older adults and finding out about a program related to my interest was like the greatest gift from Lakehead. It helped me choosing the right professional studies and I love what I am studying. I cant wait to work for long term home cares and older adults in few years from now."
